British Modern Biathlon Championships
Kelly College sent a squad of 14 swimmers, who had qualified at the South West Regional Qualifier, to compete in the British Modern Biathlon Championships (run & swim) in Sheffield last weekend, coming home with 2 individual and 1 team gold, 2 team silvers and one individual bronze medal.
Annie Tinsley and Amy Bayliss were the only girls representing Kelly College. They came in 23rd and 33rd respectively.
The 10 year old boys, Mark Brend, Peter Meachin and Oliver Lake, ran and swam their way to take 2nd place in the Team event.
Gregg Shrosbree, Lawrence Oxborough and Adam John posted some good run and swim times to also take 2nd place in the 11 to 12 year old age group. Gregg placed 3rd in the individual in this age group.
In the boys 13 to 14 year age group Alex Richards (6th), Matthew Henry (9th) and Philip Channon (28th) took top honours in the team event, reversing the tables on Millfield School who had beaten them in the qualifier last month.
Matthew Hill in the 17 to 18 age group, with a fourth place in the swim came 13th overall.
Sunday afternoon saw the two highlights of the weekend with Richard Brady, Kelly College Assistant Triathlon Coach, winning the Senior Mens Category, with a win in the run and 2nd in the swim. Mathew Slator (17/18 age group) and former British Biathlon Champion (2001), ran the race of his life to place first in the run by .44 of a second and then easily took first place in the swim to make him British Biathlon Champion 2003.
