20th 21st September Swimmers from Kelly College recorded many personal best times and brought home several medals at the end of the first weekend of the City of Plymouth Championships. The first gold of the weekend went to Amy Bayliss in the 50m backstroke, this winning form carried on into the 50m breaststroke and a personal best in the 200m Individual medley was rewarded with a Silver medal. Liam Yeo was the other gold medallist in the 50m freestyle. Liam also won Silver in the 200m freestyle, 50m butterfly and 400m freestyle, and bronze in the 100m Individual Medley. Alex Richards and Chris Wylie were vying for position with each other, with Alex only hundredths of a second in front of Chris to gain bronze in the 100m Individual Medley and the 200m frontcrawl. The tables turned in the 400m freestyle, with Chris winning silver. Chris also gained silver in the 50m backstroke and bronze in the 50m butterfly. Will Cummings recorded a two second personal best on his 100m breaststroke, to win silver, with two bronze medals in the 50m frontcrawl and 100m Individual medley. Rebekah Meachin competed in four events and was knocking of the seconds in every event, with the biggest being a whole 17 second personal best time on her 200m breaststroke. Oliver Lake also managed to record personal best times, even though he had the plaster removed from his broken arm less than a week ago. Triathlete Thom Phillips showed good triathletes don’t just swim frontcrawl, by coming 5th in the Championship final of the 100m Individual Medley. Thom also gained bronze in the 200m freestyle. These swimmers are looking forward to the next round next weekend at Central Park Plymouth. |
