City of Plymouth Championships

27th 28th September

On this second weekend of competition at the City of Plymouth Championships, Kelly College swimmers continued to show fine form and brought home trophies as well as medals this time.

Amy Bayliss showed the way again this week with a gold in the 100m IM, followed closely by Annie Tinsley who won the silver.  Amy and Annie (both 11 years) achieved personal bests on all their events.  In the 50m Freestyle it was Amy first again followed closely by Annie second.  The 50m Butterfly saw Annie take the gold with Amy 4th.  In the final session the girls were competing in the 200m and 400m Freestyle.  Annie took the gold in both of these with Amy, swimming her first ever 400m Freestyle, taking silver in both.  After the final event the BAGCAT (British Age Group Categories) were presented and Amy took the trophy with Annie 2nd.

Rebekah Meachin proved that training hard does pay dividends and managed to produce personal bests on all her swims, one with a 45 second improvement.

The boys started this week in final fettle with Will Cummings (13), Liam Yeo (11) and Oliver Lake (10) all taking gold in their age group of the 200m Breaststroke and the 50m Breaststroke.  Oliver achieved a creditable 4th in the BAGCATS.  Christopher Wylie continued to make great progress achieving Devon County entry times and pbs whilst picking up two bronze medals in the 100m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke. This put Chris in 3rd position for the BAGCATS.  Liam Yeo placed 2nd in the 11 years BAGCATS with Will Cummings taking the BAGCATS trophy for the 13 year old boys.

Thom Phillips in his last year at Kelly College placed 3rd in his age group for the 200m Individual Medley and was unlucky just to miss the final of the Mens 100m Freestyle.
