36th British Modern Biathlon Championships 2004

SOUTHBURY LEISURE CENTRE & ENFIELD PLAYING FIELDS

20th November, 2004.

After several years of the British Modern Biathlon Championships being held at Sheffield, where the weather was invariably very wet and windy, the change this year to Enfield in Middlesex, led to hopes of a more settled climate.  The run was scheduled for the Saturday morning and though there was no wind and rain, the temperature was –3.  The Kelly College biathletes all performed well in the run with Flora Duffy taking top spot in the Youth A Girls category, Sophie Reynolds 2nd in the Youth B Girls, and Matthew Slator 2nd in the Junior Men.

Points were then awarded for the run, to be added to points earned in the swimming pool.  The pool at Southbury Leisure Centre is a fairly new one, 8 lanes and 25metres with plenty of spectator accommodation.

Danielle Shrosbree, Youth E Girls,  placed 3rd in the swim, giving Danielle 10th place overall.  Youth D Boys Team of Lawrence Oxborough (4th), Cameron Carpenter-Warren (9th) and Oliver Lake (20th) took top honours in the Team event, having claimed silver last year.

Matthew Henry, 5th in the run and 1st in the swim, placed 2nd overall, helping his team of Joshua Lake (21st) and Gregg Shrosbree (27th) into first place in the Youth C Boys Team Event.  This is the third year running that Matthew has won a Team Event at the British Championships.

Luke Wakefield (6th overall and first in swim), Junior Heffernan (10th) and Alex Richards (14th), the third team of boys sent by Kelly College to the Championships, not to be outdone by the other two teams, placed first in the Youth B Boys Team event.

Sophie Reynolds, after her second place in the run, settled for 11th overall in the Youth B Girls, with Thomas Legeland, Youth A Boys placing 14th overall.

Kelly College kept the best performances to last with two new British Champions in Flora Duffy (Youth A Girls), first in run and third in swim and Matthew Slator (Junior Men), second in run and first in swim.
