British Long Distance Swimming Association 1 Hour Postal Swim
21st January, 2004 There were 1745 entries this year in the British Long Distance Swimming Association one hour postal swim. Kelly College entered the event for the first time this year and finished with excellent results. Jack Cockerton, Kelly College Swim Squad Captain, was top of the tree not only in the 14-15 year age group but overall with 5,135m breaking the record which had stood for 18 years. Amanda Sanderson, another Kelly College winner, missed the 14-15 year record by only 3 metres with 4,980, but Amanda still has another year to go in this event. Matthew Henry (12/13years) and Matthew Slator (Open) were also gold medal winners along with David Hill who took first place in the 14/15 years Disabled Section. Laura Sprague (10/11) and Thomas Howe (14/15) gained 3rd place medals. Kelly College had three firsts in the relays – Boys 10/11 years, Lawrence Oxborough, Oliver Lake and Liam Yeo – Boys 14/15 years, Jack Cockerton, Thomas Howe and Daniel Kidwell and Girls 14/15 years, Amanda Sanderson, Brikitta Batten and Rebecca Smith. Boys 12/13 years relays, Matthew Henry, Gregg Shrosbree and Philip Channon were placed 2nd and two teams gained 3rd places, the girls 10/11 years, Laura Sprague, Victoria Dewar-Fowler and Holly Yeo and the girls 14/15 years, Jakie Wellman, Angharad Morrison and Meghan Spence.
