Western Counties Youth Championships

1st - 2nd May, 2004

The Western Counties Youth Swimming Championships were held over the bank holiday weekend at the beginning of May. Kelly College had 9 swimmers competing in this competition which is for girls 14years and over and boys 15years and over.

Jack Cockerton (15) Kelly College’s Swim Squad Captain was to show the way for the rest of the team with 6 gold medals in the 100m & 200m Backstroke, 100m & 200m Breaststroke and the 200m & 400m Individual Medley. Jack took time off from his GCSE studies to compete at this event, but now for Jack it is back into hard training and more studying.

Amanda Sanderson (15) picked up 4 silvers medals, 200m & 400m Freestyle and 200m & 400m Individual medley and two bronze medals in the 800m Freestyle and 200m Backstroke.

Sophie Stanford (16) 100m Breaststroke and Brikitta Batten (14) 200m Butterfly also achieved bronze medals.

In June Kelly College will be sending a team of swimmers to compete in the Western Counties Age Group Competitions at Bath and Millfield.
