November 2006 Kelly College 's Flora Duffy placed 6th at the ITU World Cup Event in Cancun Mexico and is on her way to qualifying for the 2008 Olympic games. Having a great swim over 1500m, she exited the water in 12th position, she then cycled strongly over the 40km course in the 18 strong front group, in torrential rain before heading onto the 10km run. Flora picked her way through the field to finish 6th in an overall time of 2hrs 02mins 28s, some 30 second behind the winner, Anja Ditmer of Germany. Flora is studying for a HND at Kelly College and the result in Mexico was the icing to her first season racing in the Senior ranks, whilst still a junior. Earlier in the year Flora finished 8th at the Commonwealth Games, 24th in the Salford World Cup, 2nd in the World Junior Championships, 9th at the Hamburg World Cup, and19th at the Beijing World Cup. |
