National Elite Duathlon Championships 2008

Five athletes from Kelly College , Rebecca Windemer, Bret Bassett, Matt Goater, Callum Tustin and Rhys Davey, competed in the Elite National Duathlon Championships, at Bryn Bac Parc, in South Wales , on a wet, windy and cold day.

Half of the senior field did not finish due to the severe weather conditions.

Rebecca Windemer produced the best result of the day finishing 7 th in the female youth event, where they ran 2.5km, cycled 12km on a technical and hilly circuit and a final 1.25km run. Bret Bassett finished 23 rd in the youth male event.

By far the most hotly contested event of the day was the Junior male event, being held over a 2.5km run, 20km cycle and a final 5km run. Rhys Davey had a strong first run, placing him just behind a large group going out on to the bike. Matt Goater and Callum Tustin where not far behind as they started the 20km cycle. Rhys worked hard to get himself into a group, whilst Callum cycled strongly passing a number of athletes, whilst Matt struggled in the cold and wet.

On the second run, Rhys dug deep during the 5km to finish in a very respectable 15th place. Unfortunately Matt and Callum retired due to the cold.
