BRITISH OLYMPIC TRIALS 2008 Summary
Jeff Hill Set 1 new PB's, European Junior Championship Qualification (10km Open Water), Olympic Trials ‘A' Finalist
Jeff made the Olympic Trials ‘A' Final finishing in 7th place. This massive 25 second improvement earned him selection onto the GB Team for the European Youth Open Water Championships in July. Jeff has worked so hard this last term and crossed the divide from Youth to Senior swimming. Louise Watkin Set 6 new PB's, 4 New European & British Records, Paralympic Qualification in 50,100 & 400Free, 100 Breaststroke ,200 Individual Medley 1 Silver medal in the multi discipline 200m Individual Medley
What a week for Louise. She got off to a great start in her first event of the Trials, the 400m FC where she smashed her own British record by a massive 12 seconds. Louise never looked back all week. It is vital the next cycle of training goes well as she has a real opportunity to convert at least 3 of these swims into Paralympic medals. Jenny Oldham Set 2 new PB's, Olympic Trials ‘B' finalist
Jenny had a great week and made the a great leap forward to make the Olympic Trials ‘B' final gaining valuable experience and also ranking her in the top 10 in GB for the senior women's 100m Backstroke event. Lauren Steadman Set 3 new PB's, Paralympic Qualification in 50 and 100m FC
Lauren MADE IT! – we got her onto the team. Lauren produced some great swims to qualify in the 50 & 100m Freestyle which were fiercely contended. The good news is that Lauren feels she could go even faster, so watch out for her in Beijing. Claire Cashmore Equalled 2 PB's, Paralympic Qualification in 100m Breast
Claire did a great job to qualify in the 100m Breaststroke despite the possibility of post viral fatigue. Claire will be back in action in 3 weeks at the 2nd Paralympic Trials in Sheffield, where she will be hoping to add the 200IM, 100m Backstroke, the 50m FC and the 100m Fly to her events in Beijing. Paul Sutherland Set 2 PB's, 1 new Kelly record in 100m Breast
Some fantastic results for Paul who has worked really hard during his time at Kelly. Paul set a new Kelly Record in the 100 BR which was held by yours truly since 1985. Since arriving at Kelly, Paul has lowered his 100m Time by a staggering 6 seconds and is now just outside of the top 16 senior male swimmers in the country. Danny Brown Set 2 PB's
Danny produced two very good races, his 100m BR was just outside the Welsh junior record by 0.4 sec where he has until next November to achieve it. His 200BR was a brilliant swim splitting 69 at the 100m mark, Danny lead his heat from the start winning by a country mile. David Hill 2 new PB's
David looked very determined at the Trials and had some great races. The Paralympic qualifying time of 65.13 for the 100m Back is one of the hardest on the programme. We will be returning in 3 weeks to finish the job that we have started. Sarah Timms 4 new PB's
Sarah produced some great personal best times during the week long competition. Her main event in the 50m Fly saw her placed 4th overall and it is hoped that we will be able to move that forward in 3 weeks time where the Paralympic QT of 41 sec is within her grasp. Vicky Cadge
Vicky had an excellent swim in the heats of the 100m backstroke producing a great PB time. Seeded against some very fast competition, Vicky found it difficult to get into her stride on the 200IM but gained valuable experience swimming and observing some of the fastest swimmers in Europe. Cameron Brodie Set 2 new PB's
This was Cameron's first major event swimming against a world class field and he did a great job in some of his key events and remains the fastest 100 fly swimmer in his age group. Jan Langton Set 5 new PB's, 1 bronze medal in the Multi Discipline 50m Fly event
Jan had a great week gaining a bronze medal in the 50m Fly and a clean sweep of personal best times. Jan is closing the gap every year on her competition and it won't be long before Jan is pressing for a place on the 2012 team. ‘My sincere thanks once again to all those that make it possible for the swimmers and coaching staff to compete and operate at this level. Every member of staff from tutors, teachers, matrons, house masters, the pastoral care team, the registry team, the academic team, the bursary team, the catering team, the school shop, the maintenance team, the headmaster and of course the governors and all interested parties have all contributed to making this Kelly's' finest performance for more than a decade' – Robin Brew, Director of Swimming |
