Archie Brew

Archie Brew

The name Brew has been synonymous with swimming for more than 35 years. Archie arrived at Kelly College in 1979 and became the Director of Swimming in 1980. Archie's impact on the College was immediate, not only for his unique style of coaching and attention to technical detail, but also for his love of the sport. Every area of swimming Archie came across benefited immensely from his enthusiasm and motivation.

Archie took the swim squad onto achieve some quite remarkable results and, produced more than 40 International Swimmers from the programme over the years. During the mid to late eighties, Kelly College was regarded as one of the strongest swimming squads in the Country and with a small select team could take on some of the big city clubs and win. A memorable victory was winning the National Fast Water Meet for two consecutive years. The event was one of the highlights of the swimming calendar and was shown on Channel 4.

Archie has a very special way with people and harbors a real talent for bringing out the very best performances with individuals or teams. As a coach he is respected the world over, and it is rarity that any one person can be praised by so many in the professional world of swimming.

Even though swimmers have come and gone over the years at Kelly, Archie has always strived to help young swimmers be the best they can be, and has allowed them to develop at the right level for them. A recent conversation with, five times World Champion, Mark Foster, summed it up. " If it wasn't for Archie Brew... I would not have been able to go on achieve the results I have."
