Kelly College triathlete and swim squad member, Jordan Channon, aged 14, travelled to Gloucester on the 20th of May for his first triathlon race in the British Triathlon South West Series this year.
The 14 boys taking part in the Tristar 3 event were split into 2 heats with Jordan starting in the 2nd heat along with 6 other boys. The race consisted of a 300 metre swim, 6km bike and 2.4km run.
Due to a technicality Jordan swam an extra 2 lengths more than his competitors which forced him into last place as he exited the swim section of the race.
Despite this considerable disadvantage, Jordan focused on having a strong cycle section and applied his determination to work hard and make the most of his bike skills.
By the end of the cycle section Jordan had overtaken all of the boys on the bike course to lead into transition in 1st place, having had the fastest cycle time of all 14 athletes.
Jordan, still wanting to prove his worth, extended his lead throughout the run segment of the race, finishing with not only the fastest bike and run splits, but, with an overall winning time of 27.52 minutes. This places Jordan as the series leader with the next race being in Yate.
