Kelly College pupil and member of Kelly Swim Squad, Jordan Channon, aged 12 has been selected by England Athletics to represent the South West in the Virgin London MIni Marathon on Sunday 17th April.
Jordan has been competing for both Kelly College and Tavistock Athletics Club and has had an excellent cross country season. He will make up a team of 6 under 13 boys and will stay at the Royal Holloway College in Surrey with the South West team and teams from the other 9 regions in England plus teams from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. On the day of the marathon coaches will travel into London in convoy and will take athletes to the assembly area in old Billingsgate Market where they will be joined by more athletes representing the 33 London Boroughs. Jordans race will start with 270 boys,they will run the course which is the last 3 miles of the main marathon distance, which means that they will pass all the major attractions, such as, The Embankment, Westminster Bridge Street with Big Ben in front of them, Birdcage Walk and then will turn in front of Buckingham Palace to finish through the marathon gantries in The Mall. There will be TV cameras and massive crowds lining the streets waiting for the competitors of the main London marathon to finish. Well done to Jorddan, who will receive a finishers medal, tee shirt and goodie bag and will then have the opportunity to watch the leading contenders in the marathon.
